RADIOMOBILE ANNOUNCES ONE CALIFORNIA PROGRAM FOR CALIFORNIA FIRE AGENCIES

Program unites fire agencies under a common technology umbrella; empowers mutual aid, interoperability, situational awareness, and accountability

SAN DIEGO, August 24, 2022 — RadioMobile, Inc., a provider of mobile data communications technology to Fire and EMS, announced ONE CALIFORNIA, a program designed to unite fire agencies across California under a common operating picture (COP) in order to empower mutual aid, interoperability, situational awareness and accountability. The program leverages deployments in firefighting technology by agencies throughout California to improve firefighter safety while saving more lives and property.

“ONE CALIFORNIA helps multiple agencies gain visibility and share incident information in real time so they can better coordinate activities,” says Jim Moore, CEO of RadioMobile. “This is especially important in light of the growing threat of wildfires in California and in particular, the ever-increasing wildland urban interface (WUI).”

Under ONE CALIFORNIA, participating agencies can exchange mobile unit and fire incident information via a distributed data platform already in use by some of the largest fire departments in California including Los Angeles County Fire and CAL FIRE. Upon obtaining a
data-sharing agreement to join the ONE CALIFORNIA network, contracted or designated cooperating agencies downloading the IQ Mobile App to a mobile data computer (MDC) or tablet and linking to RadioMobile’s IQ Flex cloud-hosted server via a cellular network. Non- contracted or designated cooperating agencies including county and municipal fire departments, as well as fire protection districts can participate, after obtaining a data-sharing agreement from the member agencies, by working with RadioMobile to integrate their dispatch environment and share two-way AVL data and status messaging into the COP ecosystem. ONE CALIFORNIA supports the sharing of AVL information from other solution providers as well.

“The ultimate goal of ONE CALIFORNIA is to improve the effectiveness of emergency response for all California residents,” says Moore. “Giving all responding agencies access to the same timely and accurate data, helps achieve that goal.”

Currently, over 2,500 units are connected to the ONE CALIFORNIA network and can be joined by new resources while en route to an incident by downloading the application. Agencies pay a nominal start-up fee plus a monthly subscription fee based on the number of vehicles deployed. New system links San Diego County fire stations to CAL FIRE Emergency Command Center for faster response and improved coordination

SAN DIEGO, August 18, 2022 — RadioMobile, Inc., a provider of mobile data communications technology to Fire and Emergency Medical Services, announced that San Diego County Fire Protection District has deployed RadioMobile’s integrated fire station alerting system, or “IQ FSAS”, in the first group of fire stations as they were being remodeled or built throughout San Diego County, California.

“As fire season lengthens and intensifies, it is crucial that each incident gets the best possible response from our firefighters in the timeliest manner possible,” said Tony Mecham, San Diego County Fire Chief. “RadioMobile’s IQ FSAS is saving us time and money by leveraging technology already in place at CAL FIRE to improve alert and response times while enhancing coordination between county and CAL FIRE resources. These first stations will be joined by 5-7 stations each year until all have been converted.”

San Diego County Fire’s mission is to coordinate, regionalize, and improve fire protection and emergency response services provided to the 1.5 million acres that comprise the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. Working in conjunction with CAL FIRE as one unified response unit, San Diego County Fire delivers around-the-clock services to 42 communities through 35 fire stations, and over 500 first responders.

The San Diego County Fire solution includes the IQ FSA Server located in the County’s IT environment. This server is linked to the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system at the San Diego Interagency Command Center as well as the first 3 county fire stations operating the IQ FSAS. The server utilizes an IP interface to the CAD system and relays dispatch messages and status updates between the CAD and the fire stations. Each station is equipped with a Command Desk Terminal (CDT) that can display apparatus status, incident details, and location information on a map. When the CDT receives the incident alert, it executes step-by-step instructions as configured for the type of alert and each station’s unique requirements. In addition to an automated voice announcement of the alert, these instructions are relayed to the Station Control Unit (SCU) that operates the station’s devices such as crew alert lights, speakers, turnout timers, bay doors, and others. This all happens within seconds of the actual dispatch ensuring that the right people are alerted and arrive at the scene as quickly as
possible.

“By leveraging CAL FIRE’s statewide integrated AVL/MDC network from RadioMobile, San Diego County Fire and CAL FIRE resources are able to deploy more quickly and share two-way location data and status messaging,” said Chief Mecham.

“We are happy to have San Diego County Fire join our family of fire & EMS users,” says Jim Moore, CEO at RadioMobile. “With IQ FSAS, they now have a modern FSA system that can meet their needs both now and well into the future and become a fully integrated and blended system along with the existing mobile AVL network.”

RadioMobile’s IQ Fire Station Alerting System helps fire and EMS agencies meet critical response requirements by shaving valuable seconds off response times while making certain that everyone responding to a dispatch knows the exact details of the incident regardless of their location. IQ FSAS seamlessly integrates with RadioMobile’s in-vehicle mobile data computers (MDCs), so supervisors and responders always know the exact location and status of emergency apparatus and personnel. This end-to-end solution enables the various resources to collaborate effectively and efficiently during wildfires and other large-scale incidents. The deployment of IQ Mobile on iPad tablets makes the solution cost-effective by leveraging the Department’s investment in a general-purpose mobile device that can be used to run other applications. Further, the IQ Mobile software that runs on the Department’s iPads is the same software that operates on RadioMobile’s Patriot mobile data computers (MDCs) used by CAL FIRE, giving both agencies access to comparable features regardless of their chosen device. And, the end-to-end solution allows future expansion to add powerful LTE routers built into firefighting vehicles with local WIFI capabilities, as well as adding two-way satellite communication capability so essential in remote areas.

“We are happy to have Butte County Fire Department join our family of Fire & EMS clients,” says Jim Moore, CEO at RadioMobile. “By utilizing RadioMobile, they are able to leverage the AVL system we built for CAL FIRE enabling faster response, data and resource sharing, and maximizing their equipment and human personnel investments.”

RadioMobile’s IQ Mobile Software which provides mapping, status and messaging via the tablet’s touchscreen. Each tablet receives and sends data to and from the dispatch via IQ Mobile Server which is capable of processing thousands of transactions per second. By using the IQ Mobile along with technology that provides connectivity over LTE/4G, each vehicle is integrated into CAL FIRE’s AVL system. The system is flexible and expandable allowing them to start with LTE connectivity and expand to use satellite or LMR-based mobile data in the future while maintaining the investment in the equipment they have already made.

CAL FIRE DEPLOYS RADIOMOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR LOCATION TRACKING AND SITUATIONAL AWARENESS ACROSS CALIFORNIA

Customized solutions improve connectivity, safety and efficiency for fire operations covering 31 million acres of California wildlands

SAN DIEGO—DECEMBER 17, 2019–CAL FIRE, one of largest fire agencies in the United States, operates over 3,000 fire, emergency response and resource protection vehicles, as well as more than 50 aircraft—all with varying connectivity challenges. While many CAL FIRE areas of responsibility (AOR) have commercial carrier (4G/LTE) coverage, others are so remote that carrier-based communication is impossible. Incident command and management need to maintain seamless communications with their entire fleet of apparatus and multiple dispatch centers across 31 million acres of service area. They also require accountability of all resources at the scene of a fire and as they travel to and from and within incidents.

To solve their connectivity challenges, CAL FIRE partnered with San Diego-based RadioMobile to equip all frontline vehicles with automatic vehicle location (AVL) technology that functions wherever vehicles travel. They installed RadioMobile’s Patriot All-In-One Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in more than 1,100 of their primary vehicles. By using the Patriot MDC, along with technology that provides connectivity over LTE/4G, LMR (CAL FIRE’s private land mobile radio data system using narrowband radio frequencies) or satellite, each vehicle has been integrated into the AVL system.

The collaboration between CAL FIRE and RadioMobile has resulted in a new level of on-scene and whole-system situational awareness across the entire state. “The Patriot allows us to see where resources are while on a fire scene, and that is huge from an accountability standpoint,” says CAL FIRE Battalion Chief Matt Damon. “The high level of commitment and customer service by RadioMobile makes me confident this is the right solution for CAL FIRE.”

With the new technology in place, as a CAL FIRE vehicle travels, the custom-built software, called IQ Mobile, automatically finds a connection with a carrier-based 4G/LTE network. When 4G is not available, the software intelligently connects through the narrowband system to provide comparable dispatch and mapping updates as 4G. When out of LMR range, it uses satellite to maintain AVL data connectivity to the dispatch or incident management center. This ability to track a vehicle as it moves through urban, suburban and rural environments is critical to ensuring the fastest response and keeping crews safe. The MDC provides turn-by-turn directions using offline maps, even when there is no data connection. Crew members also have the incident detail, up-to-date information and live maps at their fingertips and no longer rely on hand-written notes as they are being dispatched.

Jim Moore, President and CEO of RadioMobile, explains that resilient data connectivity and the ability to receive accurate and timely location, status and incident information automatically via data means that much less voice traffic is needed. This results in significant benefits for dispatch, leadership and firefighters in the field.

“CAL FIRE has special requirements that demand tailored solutions so we developed and installed a custom AVL and mobile data system,” says Moore. “Their new system receives incident information, provides mapping features and enables vehicle operators to communicate via a touchscreen application that interfaces with their computer-aided dispatch system.” Moore describes RadioMobile as, “a hardware and software development company that also specializes in integration,” with the goal of building solutions that integrate seamlessly with one another, so new technology can work perfectly with legacy systems. “It is worth noting that this technology meets the federal wildland fire resource tracking requirements outlined in the Dingell Act.”

RadioMobile takes fire and EMS departments beyond the reach of broadband, connecting them with mission-ready solutions that are dependable in any situation. They build fully customized, end-to-end information tools that seamlessly integrate with legacy systems, extending resilient coverage to urban, suburban and rural environments.
