Where It Started
An engineer. An idea. A better way to connect people with information.
RMI was founded in 1999, but the thinking behind the company began long before that.
Founder Jim Moore spent much of his early career in engineering, wireless communications, and real-time logistics. During the early years of FedEx, he worked on systems designed to move information more directly between dispatch operations and drivers in the field.
The experience shaped a belief that would later define his work in public safety: When information moves better, people perform better.
Years later, while observing public safety dispatch operations, Jim recognized a familiar challenge. Critical information was still being communicated primarily by voice. Details sometimes had to be repeated. Information could be misunderstood. Valuable time was being lost.
“We could do better than this.”
Jim Moore, Founder
That belief eventually became RadioMobile. But in public safety, better information meant more than efficiency. It meant helping first responders arrive with greater awareness, coordinate more effectively, and serve their communities more safely.
From the beginning, the focus was never technology for its own sake. It was understanding the problem first, listening to the people doing the work and building solutions around the realities they face every day. That philosophy still guides RMI today.
Built in the Field
We build by listening to the people who use it.
RMI’s early work focused on moving CAD information directly to responding apparatus through LMR-based data, followed by mobile incident software and AVL technologies. The work demonstrated how critical information could move more directly from dispatch to the people responding.
As those customer relationships evolved, another opportunity emerged. While walking through a Los Angeles County Fire facility, Jim encountered an early fire station alerting setup made up of batteries, relays, wires and boxes. After learning what the agency was trying to accomplish, a LA County Fire Chief challenged Jim directly:
“Can you guys do something better than this?”

His response was immediate:
“Oh yeah. Give us a couple of weeks.”
Jim Moore, Founder
The result became one of the earliest computer-based fire station alerting systems of its kind. More importantly, it established a pattern that still defines RMI today: Listen carefully. Understand the operation. Solve the real problem. Continue improving.
The technology evolved because the mission evolved. And it continues to evolve today.
From RadioMobile to RMI
Radio is still part of our world. It just isn’t the whole story.
RadioMobile represented where we began. RMI reflects what we have become.
Over the years, our work has expanded far beyond radio communications. Today’s public safety environment depends on information moving across dispatch centers, fire stations, vehicles, mobile devices, responders, and the systems that support them. Our role evolved alongside those changing needs.
Today, RMI helps agencies connect the technologies that support emergency response, from CAD integration, fire station alerting, mobile data, and location services to 4G and 5G cellular, LEO satellite, and Wi-Fi connectivity that provide reliable communications across the response environment.
Along the way, customers, partners and employees increasingly referred to the company by a simpler name: RMI.
The name became shorthand for the people they trusted, the solutions they relied on, and the relationships built over decades.
The transition was not about becoming a different company. It was about embracing the name people already knew us by.
Same people. Same values. Same commitment to public safety.
What We Do
Connecting public safety operations from dispatch to arrival.
Every emergency response depends on information moving quickly, accurately, and reliably. RMI helps Fire and EMS agencies connect dispatch centers, fire stations, apparatus and personnel through integrated technologies that keep critical information moving from alert through arrival to back home at the station.
Our solutions bring together mobile data computers, mobile response software, mobile data networking, and fire station alerting, supported by resilient connectivity across LMR, LTE/5G, and satellite networks as well as integration with existing CAD and communications infrastructure.
Together, these technologies help reduce delay, improve situational awareness, and give first responders the information they need to act with greater confidence and efficiency when every second matters.
Why Agencies Choose RMI
Technology shaped around the realities of emergency response.
- Built specifically for Fire and EMS operations
- Developed through decades of customer collaboration
- Designed for complex, mission-critical environments
- Integrated with the systems agencies already depend on
- Backed by people who understand the responsibility behind every response
Our Team
The people behind RMI.
Behind every RMI solution is a team of engineers, developers, technicians, problem-solvers, and customer-facing professionals who understand the responsibility that comes with building technology for public safety.
For Jim, that responsibility extends to every detail. Walking through RMI’s production area, he points to something as simple as a terminal being attached to a wire. It may be one small connection within a much larger system, but its reliability still matters.
“Every person contributes. Every single job. Make sure that connector is good. Because if that comes off, a life might be lost.”
Jim Moore, Founder
That mindset connects the smallest details of the work to the larger mission. Reliability matters. Accuracy matters. Speed matters. And every person who builds, develops, installs or supports an RMI system contributes to making it work when someone depends on it.
Sometimes, the impact of that work becomes especially clear.
“When a customer calls to tell me that using our system in the first few days resulted in three confirmed CPR saves because responders got there faster, I know I’m doing something meaningful. I’m proud of the role we play in helping the communities we serve.”
RMI VP of Sales
Technology is only as valuable as the difference it makes for the people using it and, ultimately, the communities they serve.

President/CEO
The words to describe our CEO could never really do him justice. When it comes to Jim Moore, you get the jack of all trades as far the engineering world is concerned. Born in NYC and raised in New Jersey, Jim was always the kid in high school messing around with gadgets and fixing equipment for people simply because he could.

Looking Forward
The purpose behind the technology.
When Jim was asked what he wanted people to take away from the story of RadioMobile and RMI, his answer was simple:
“Our commitment to saving lives. That’s the bottom line.”
Jim Moore, Founder
That belief connects where RadioMobile started with where RMI is going.
Public safety agencies will continue to face new challenges. Technology will continue to evolve. New sources of information will emerge, operations will become more connected, and expectations for speed and reliability will continue to grow.
RMI will evolve alongside the agencies we serve by continuing to ask the questions that have shaped the company from the beginning: Where is information being delayed? Where can systems work better together? Where can another second, or another millisecond, be saved?
Because the goal has never been technology for its own sake. It is helping public safety professionals receive the information they need sooner, respond with greater awareness, and reach the people who need them as quickly as possible.
Get the right information to the right people when it matters most.
That idea helped build RadioMobile. It has shaped every solution we have delivered since. And today, it continues to guide RMI as we help public safety agencies respond faster, operate with greater awareness, and serve their communities with confidence.
